20 years of LASAK scientific conferences
In 2016, LASAK is going to organize its 20th annual IMPLANTOLOGY conference.
The leading Spanish oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Arturo Bilbao Alonso, MD, PhD, PhD, will share his more than 20 years of experience from combining clinical practice with teaching at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Prof. Antonin Simunek, MD, PhD, from the Implantology Centre in Hradec Kralove, who is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern implantology in the Czech Republic, will be another key speaker. The number of dental implants inserted by him is approaching thirty thousand. He has been co-operating with LASAK since the very beginning. The focus of interest of the leading German periodontologist and implantologist, Stefan Fickl, DMD, PhD, from the University hospital in Würzburg, is a different approach to the treatment of soft tissue within the esthetic and functional aspects taking into account possible complications and special cases.
Next year, LASAK celebrates our twenty-fifth anniversary and we will be delighted, if you would celebrate with us.
Therefore, the scientific conference, IMPLANTOLOGY 2016, will be a celebration of our double anniversary. That’s why we have chosen a very special venue for this event.
Please join us at the 20th annual scientific conference, IMPLANTOLOGY 2016, which takes place on Friday, 15 April 2016 in the Lobkowicz Palace in the Prague Castle complex, Czech Republic. The conference starts at 1.30 p.m. The scientific program will be followed by an evening cocktail party for all conference participants from 7 p.m., combined with a tour of the private Lobkowicz Palace Museum.
History of Lobkowicz Palace
The Lobkowicz Palace was built in the second half of the 16th century by the Czech nobleman, Jaroslav of Pernstejn (1528–1569). It was Jaroslav’s sister-in-law, Maria Maximiliana Manrique de Lara y Mendoza, wife of his brother Vratislav, Chancellor of the Czech Kingdom (1530–1582), who brought the celebrated Infant Jesus of Prague statue from her homeland of Spain to the Palace, where it became well-known for its miraculous healing powers. The statue was later given by Vratislav and Maria Maximiliana’s daughter, Polyxena (1566–1642), to the Church of Our Lady Victorious in Prague. A copy of the Infant Jesus of Prague is on permanent display in the Lobkowicz Palace Museum. The Palace came into the Lobkowicz family through the marriage of Polyxena to Zdenek Vojtech, the first Prince Lobkowicz (1568–1628). In the following centuries, the palace witnessed some of Bohemia’s most significant historical events.
Following the defeat of the Protestants at the Battle of Bila Hora in 1620, the Catholic Lobkowicz family consolidated its influence and power base for the next three centuries. The Lobkowicz Palace took on a more formal, imperial role and of Czech power for political and ceremonial purposes.
After the Thirty Years War, the palace underwent significant alterations in the Baroque style and some of its more lavishly decorated salons were built. The palace was redesigned in the Italian Manner, this design influence can be seen today in the Imperial Hall, whose walls are painted with fresco trompe l’oeil statues of emperors surrounded by geometric designs, floral and other decorative motifs. Additional examples of the Italianate style can be found in the Concert Hall and the Balcony Room, whose ceilings are adorned with elaborate painted stuccowork and sumptuous frescoes by F. V. Harovnik.
The Lobkowicz family, again, became the rightful owner of its palace in 2002, after two confiscations in the 20th century – the first by Nazi forces, the second by the Communist government. The palace was opened to the public after five years of planning and restoration. The Lobkowicz Collections are considered to be the largest and oldest privately owned art collection in the Czech Republic and one of the most important in Central Europe.

Presentation of posters
We invite all participants to give a poster presentation. If you are interested in participating in the poster section, please, send the title and a short abstract of your poster, together with the names and addresses of the authors, by e-mail to: info@lasak.cz by 1 March 2016. The space in the historical rooms is limited, that´s why you have to send all information in time. The final posters are to be sent by 25 March 2016. The authors of the posters will have free entrance; the conference organizer will provide the printing of the posters.
